📚Goodreads vs Me🤓
Tool to compare your Goodreads ratings with the community's and visualize your reading patterns
I've been using Goodreads for a few years to keep track of what I read and what I want to read. But I always had the feeling that Goodreads users had very different tastes from mine. That curiosity ended up turning into 📚Goodreads vs Me🤓.
🚀 What can you do with it?
Rating comparison: It's not a ‘wrapped’ recap of what you've read: it compares your ratings with the global Goodreads average. See at a glance which books you rated drastically differently from the community.
Yearly analysis: Explore how you've read each year and what your favorite genres are. You can cross-reference data like page count, average rating, publication year, etc.
Explore your library: Browse every book saved in your library and all the ratings you've given them, in a more visual way.
Oh, and all of this works without logging in or anything like that. Just entering your Goodreads ID is enough.
🛠️ The tech stack
This project started as a side project to test the new capabilities of Svelte 5 and SvelteKit's remote functions. For the data visualization, besides Svelte's own features, I also used D3.js for the math, which makes dynamic charts and interactive force simulations possible.
